We are very pleased to invite you to the 21st World Congress of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity & Metabolic Disorders – IFSO 2016, which will be held from September 28th to October 1st, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro. Considering that Brazilian specialists have always played a key role in the major achievements of bariatric surgery and the development of metabolic surgery, it is very significant that our country will now host this congress . Holding this meeting in Brazil is a clear sign sent by the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity & Metabolic Disorders that global health is a priority and that Brazil also plays a key part in the world discuss ions and statements on this subject.
This Congress is not being held in Brazil by chance. Around 90,000 bariatric pr ocedures are performed in Brazil every year and it has held its own successful national bariatric surgery conference for over two decades, the number of research studies and pr ocedures has grown over the years and it has a solid and very act ive scientific society. Today, bariatr ic surgery is recognized as a sp ecialty. Brazil has been one of the world leaders in Bariatric and pioneer in metabolic procedures having achieved great pr ogress both in quality and volume.
